시놉시스 Synopsis
돌봄의 시간과 새로운 시작 사이에서 온전한 자신을 찾아가는 한 어머니의 이야기. 영화 <간주곡(Interlude)>은 자폐 스펙트럼 장애(ASD)가 있는 아들을 길러낸 클라라의 회고와, 아들이 떠나며 남긴 적막을 찬찬히 따라간다. 일상의 풍경과 내밀한 고백을 통해 영화는 ‘보호자’라는 역할 너머 자신의 삶과 자아를 다시 찾아가는 그녀의 여정을 바라본다. 이 여정은 돌봄의 시간을 지나온 수많은 어머니들의 삶과 깊이 공명한다.
The story of a mother discovering herself between caregiving and a new beginning. Interlude follows Clara’s reflections on raising a son with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and the silence left after his departure. Through daily scenes and personal accounts, the film observes her journey of self-discovery beyond the role of a caretaker, echoing the shared experiences of many mothers.

클라라는 자폐 진단을 받은 아들을 홀로 돌보며 살아왔다. 남편을 잃은 뒤, 그녀는 아들의 치료와 성장, 기쁨과 좌절의 모든 순간을 책임져야 했다. 아들은 음악을 통해 안정을 찾고 점차 자신만의 세계를 넓혀간다. 시간이 흘러 음악가로 성장한 아들은 어머니 곁을 떠나 새로운 무대에 선다. 클라라는 아들의 성취가 자랑스럽지만 동시에 자신이 평생 누군가를 돌보는 사람으로만 살아왔다는 사실을 마주한다. 인터뷰를 계기로 클라라는 자신의 삶을 돌아보게 된다. 삶의 전환기를 지나고 있는 사람의 진솔한 자기 고백을 경청하고 일상을 관찰하는 시간 속에서 우리는 생각하게 된다. 한 사람을 사랑한다는 것은 자신을 어디까지 내어주는 일인가. 돌봄의 시간이 지나간 뒤, 남겨진 사람은 어떻게 다시 자신으로 살아갈 수 있는가.

Clara has spent her life caring largely on her own for her son, who was diagnosed with autism. After losing her husband, she had to shoulder every aspect of her son’s life, from his treatment and development to his moments of joy and frustration. Through music, her son finds stability and gradually expands his world. As time passes, he grows into a musician and eventually leaves his mother’s side for new stages. Clara is proud of his accomplishments, yet must also confront the fact that she has spent her entire life defined by caring for someone else. An interview prompts Clara to reflect on her own life. As we listen to the candid reflections and observe the everyday life of someone at a turning point, we are left to ask: How much of ourselves do we give to loving another person? And once the time of caregiving has passed, how can the person left behind learn to live as themselves again?
