시놉시스 Synopsis
기적 같은 ‘게소텐’ 이야기. 야마가타시 나가마치에 위치한 작은 슈퍼마켓 ‘엔도’. 이곳의 명물이자 야마가타의 소울푸드인 ‘게소텐’(오징어 다리 튀김)은 입소문으로 현지인은 물론 타지, 해외 손님들도 찾는다. 하지만 사람들이 이곳을 사랑하는 이유는 그 때문만이 아니다. 마을의 어른들이 우물가에서 모임을 갖고, 여름 축제가 열리며, 아이들을 위한 무료 급식소도 운영된다. 이 작은 슈퍼마켓은 이제 지역 사회의 ‘햇살 드는 자리’가 되었다. 다양한 사람들이 모이는 이 풍경 속에서 우리는 무엇을 보게 될까? 영화는 ‘게소텐’이라는 소울푸드가 키운 ‘지역의 보물’을 따라간다.
The miraculous story of “Gesoten”. “Endo” – small supermarket is located in Naga-machi, Yamagata city. “Gesoten,”(Deep Fried Squid Legs) Yamagata's soul food, has become a hot topic, attracting customers not only from the local area but also from outside the prefecture and even from overseas. “Gesoten” is not the only reason why so many people love there. Local elderly women have well-side meetings, local summer festivals are held, and a kids’ cafeteria is open. It has truly become a “sunny spot” in the community. What do you see in this scene where people from all walks of life gather at a small supermarket in town? This documentary looks at the “local treasure” nurtured by the soul food “Gesoten”.

일본 야마가타현에는 ‘엔도’(Endo)라는 이름의 작은 슈퍼마켓이 있다. 가게에선 야마가타의 명물인 오징어 다리 튀김과 이를 이용한 다양한 요리를 팔고 있다. 엔도는 오징어 튀김의 유명세를 통해 지역 경제의 중추가 되는 한편 자체적인 여름 축제를 열어서 지역민의 활기를 되살리기도 한다. 이처럼 엔도는 단순한 슈퍼마켓, 식당을 넘어 지역 공동체의 안온한 휴식처가 되어준다. 남녀노소 가릴 것 없이, 현지인과 관광객 가릴 것 없이 모두 엔도에 모여 시간을 보낸다. 영화는 이러한 엔도의 모습을 안정적인 다큐멘터리의 형태로 소개하는 동시에 초반부엔 유머 넘치는 픽션을 통해 오징어 다리 튀김에 대한 야마가타현 주민들의 애정을 듬뿍 드러내기도 한다. 엔도라는 공간의 성정처럼, 편안하되 일상 속의 울림을 주는 다큐멘터리다.
