친구들과 여행 겸 촬영을 위해 대만에 간 권용진은 우연히 발견한 가도교가 마음에 들어 <자유사진>을 제작한다. 영화에 등장하는 두 사람은 한눈에도 전문배우가 아니지만, 친구의 카메라 앞이라서 그런지 자연스러운 호흡을 보여준다. 주어진 것은 설정 정도일까, 영화엔 대본도 없다. 배경에서 인물로 어지럽게 흔들리며 이동하는 긴 숏들도 현장의 움직임에 따라 즉흥적으로 만들어진 것이다. 영화는 인물들이 카메라와 눈을 마주치는 장면도 숨기지 않는데, 이는 카메라가 마치 제3의 인물로서 영화에 참여하는 것처럼 느껴지게 한다. 이들사이에 흐르는 신선한 공기는 <자유사진>이라는 놀음에 관객을 기꺼이 끌어들인다. 권용진은 최근 비슷한 방식으로 <명륜과 남산>을 완성했다. 그에게 영화를 만드는 일은 친구들과의 유희이자, 좋아하는 작품들을 떠올리며 자기의 목소리를 영화에 새겨 넣는 일인 것 같다. 권용진의 영화를 오래 보고 싶다.

Having traveled to Taiwan with friends for a trip and a shoot, Kwon Yong-jin happened upon a viaduct that caught his eye and made Free Photo. The film's two people are clearly not professional actors, yet perhaps because they are in front of a friend's camera, they share a natural rhythm. There is no script, only a premise. Even the dizzying long takes moving from the background toward the characters were improvised on location. The film does not hide the moments when the characters meet the camera's gaze, making the camera feel like a third character. The fresh air between them draws us into the playful game of Free Photo. Kwon Yong-jin recently completed Myeongnyun and Namsan in a similar manner. For him, filmmaking seems to be both play with friends and a way of inscribing his own voice into film through the works he loves. I hope to keep watching his films for a long time.
