시놉시스 Synopsis

미디어센터 주민영상제작 수업을 맡은 ‘진아'는 학창시절 담임 교사였던 ‘서인'과 8년만에 재회하고, 선생님에게 못다한 고백을 하려한다.

Jin-a, an instructor for a community video production class at a media center, reunites with her former homeroom teacher, Seo-in, after eight years. Now, she prepares to make a long-overdue confession she never had the chance to say.

여성 진아는 “여자를 좋아한다”라고 엄마에게 불현듯 고백한다. 그런데 엄마는 별다른 반응이 없다. 때로 침묵은 커다란 부정으로 느껴진다. 진아는 답답함을 느낀다. 이 와중에 어느 미디어센터에서 중년층을 대상으로 영화 제작 강의를 맡게 된다. 여기서 우연히 만난 이는 8년 전 은사였던 서인이다. 진아와 서인의 과거는 다소 복잡하며, 진아는 서인에게 오래된 죄책감을 지니고 있다. 함께 과거를 회고하며 미래로 나아가려는 둘에게 또 다른 편견의 벽이 부닥치는데, 진아는 꽤 달라졌다. 상처를 주고받을지라도 자신을 부정하지 않는 방식을 택한다. 퀴어 영화의 토대를 지니되, 그것을 어떠한 멜로 드라마로 치장하는 편은 아니다. 그보단 진아라는 인물의 내적 변화에 집중하여 그녀의 정체성 문제를 담담하며 침착하게 그리는 작품이다.

Jin-a, a woman who likes women, suddenly comes out to her mother. Yet mother shows little reaction. At times, silence can feel like a profound form of rejection. She is left frustrated. Meanwhile, she takes on a filmmaking class for middle-aged participants at a local media center. There, she happens to meet Seo-in, her former mentor from eight years earlier. The past between Jin-a and Seo-in is complicated, and Jin-a has carried a long-standing sense of guilt toward her. As the two look back on their shared history and attempt to move forward, they encounter another barrier of prejudice. Yet Jin-a herself has changed considerably. Even if they end up hurting one another, she chooses not to deny who she is. While grounded in the foundations of queer cinema, the film does not attempt to dress itself up as a conventional melodrama. Instead, it focuses on Jin-a’s inner transformation, portraying the struggles surrounding her identity with restraint and composure.
