에브루의 할아버지는 한국전쟁 참전용사였다. 여러 해가 지난 뒤, 그의 손녀는 할아버지가 한국에서 처음 도착한 도시 부산에서의 이야기를 전한다.
Ebru's grandfather was a soldier in the Korean War. Many years later His granddaughter tells the story of his grandpa in Busan, the first city he arrived in Korea.
영화는 할아버지의 전쟁 기억이 담긴 부산의 유엔 기념 묘지를 방문하면서 시작되었다. 그곳에서 전사한 군인들의 희생을 느끼며 과거와 연결되었고, 할아버지 역시 그 속에 자신의 이야기를 가지고 있었다.
또 다른 중요한 장소인 부산항은 변화와 전환을 상징한다. 할아버지가 처음 이곳에 도착했을 때 느꼈을 불안과 두려움을 상상하며, 이곳이 그의 과거와 나의 현재를 잇는 다리라는 것을 깨달았다.
이 영화는 할아버지의 이야기를 통해 전쟁의 영향과 기억의 중요성을 전하고, 평화와 이해를 찾는 여정을 담고자 한다.
그리고 안타깝게도, 한국전쟁의 고통은 지금도 다른 곳에서 반복되고 있다.
My film began when I visited to UN Memorial Cemetery in Korea, the city Busan that holds a significant place in my grandfather’s war memories. Walking through the cemetery where countless soldiers, including my grandfather’s comrades, are laid to rest, I felt a powerful connection to the past. It was as if the whispers of those who had fought and fallen were carried by the wind, guiding me through the rows of gravestones. Each name etched in stone told a story, a life interrupted, and a sacrifice made for something greater than oneself. My grandfather had his own story too.
The Busan Port, another key location in the film, serves as a metaphor for transition and change. It was here that many soldiers, including my grandfather, arrived in a foreign land, filled with uncertainty and fear. Standing at the docks, I tried to imagine what he might have felt as a young man, thousands of miles from home, facing an uncertain future. This place, filled with so much history, became a bridge between his past and my present.
My vision is clear: to create a film that not only tells my grandfather’s story but also serves as a universal narrative about the enduring impact of war, the importance of memory, and the journey to find peace and understanding.
And unfortunately, this painful Korean war that happened in history is now happening somewhere else and is being repeated.
